I like the cover. I think it will be a conundrum at first glance and if one doesn't know to look, but once it is seen, it's brilliant. You could do a lot of promotion just on having a cover with an eye trick.

That is a very good idea!

Yes, it is a good idea. Thank you! :D

I'm afraid I'm going to have to be the dissenter here. If someone hadn't told me what the cover was, I wouldn't have been able to figure it out. And I'm afraid that covers I can't figure out just irritate me, as a reader. I do like the colors and texture, if that's of any help.

Lamia- 01-08-2007

That was my original response. But I think when the background has been made lighter it'll be a lot clearer. I like the colours as well.

That is the risk with illusions, some people will miss them. I think one reason I did see it is that you told me what it was up top.

Lamia- 01-08-2007

Yes, well it took me a whole day to spot the big face. Once you can see the face, the random placing of the other objects makes sense.

I'm a cover snob and I thought it was really well done. But then again I'm artsy-fartsy :) I think the cover suggests mystery and complexity. It is elegantly done too, imo, it's easy to go overboard with that style. I'd buy it!

Lamia- 01-10-2007

Yes! Thanks Niamh, that's a very good reaction!

This is the new version of the cover for 'An African Moon' The artist has taken out the moth and sharpened the definition of the face. I think it's very striking.

veinglory- 01-18-2007

The face is a lot clearer but has the lement of illusion sort of gone? Have you tried it on some new eyes--I think the lion is a bit lost. But it still makes a very evocative pattern.

Lamia- 01-18-2007

Yes, I think the lion isn't so obvious -- before it was the first thing you saw. Or the first thing I noticed, anyhow. But I still like the overall effect, and anyone who studied the cover will see the lion eventually...
