 Gosh, that's terrible. Mind you, I'm not holding my breath because head office told me it would cost between £8-£15. It was my branch that quoted £5. I guess I just have to wait and see....

When you subtract 15% tax and five pounds each time it does start to whittle things down....
Tavaran- 02-22-2006
Yup, I wouldn't want to do it for anything less than the equivalent of £50. PayPal can be a nuisance but I'm very glad of it!
Fennie- 02-22-2006
Yes, PayPal is a good thing - but their fees are a bit on the steep side, for some services. I hope you keep clearing your PayPay account out - you've heard those worrying stories about PayPal "freezing" the accounts of writers, because they suspect that the writers are receiving money from "pornographic" sites, and they don't want to be involved with the "sex trade"?
Another thing that drives me *insane* about banks is that it takes *four days* for my bank to transfer money, for bill-paying or whatever. How the Hell can they possibly pretend it takes *four days*?? Bonkers.

The paypal thing continues--even freezing accounts of 3-D modeller because the modelly they supplied were naked.
I just hope to stay under the radar.

Ditto. I clear out as soon as it reaches the £50 minimum. As to fees - check your account hasn't been upgraded to 'premium' which is the one they charge fees on. Mine got mysteriously upgraded to that when someone paid me by credit card and it was a few transactions before I spotted what was happening and re-set it to the basic one.
Fennie- 02-23-2006
Eeeek! I'll check that ...
veinglory- 02-23-2006
You have to have a premium account to accept credit card payments. Of course even a standard account means losing 3%--I have been wondering if that was tax deductable...
Tavaran- 02-24-2006
You have to have a premium account to accept credit card payments.
Yes you do - but they don't make it terribly clear what you're signing up for when they change it. I just got a brief message saying 'someone has sent you a credit card payment and you will need to upgrade to a premium account in order to accept it' but nowhere did it say that the prem. ac. charged fees on everything... so of course I said 'yes'.

'Men of Mystery' is now listed in the Howarth online catalogue as 'tentative', with a revised publication date of Spring 2007. As this is a whole year later than it was originally due, I'm not exactly holding my breath. :?
Fennie- 05-29-2006
Hmmm. "Tentative"? What do they mean by that? (apart from what it usually means?) Sounds rather annoying?.
Tavaran- 05-30-2006
Yes, I'm not quite sure whether to be alarmed or not. Quite a few books on their catalogue are marked up with this term so it could just be in-house jargon. And the contributors have been paid which makes me think it's going to appear at some stage.
OTOH, the antho was originally, originally supposed to appear in autumn 2005, then that got put back to spring 2006, now that's been postponed to spring 2007. Which is why I'm not holding my breath, because I'd turn blue.
Getting paid is a major step forward and I can't really complain too loudly because it was quite a lot. :) But - the story was only contracted with them for the term of the antho and if that gets delayed and delayed, I can't place it anywhere else in the meantime....
Fennie- 05-30-2006
Getting paid is strong evidence of a serious intention to bring it out - so I'm sure they will. Let's just hope it doesn't take ages and ages..
