Anyone else been here?
Has anyone else dealt with this problem and how did you solve it? So, my life is in a bit of turmoil now. Those of you who are on my e-mail contact list already know part of it. I’ll probably be finishing my move next week. My stuff is divided up amongst two storage units, my parent’s place, my old place, and my car. Everything is seemingly everywhere to a comical point. And I do mean comical in so far that my “bed” has to be the most uncomfortable futon I’ve ever slept on and it’s broken so I’m sleeping at an angle…the kind of angle where I have to prop up pillows to keep myself from banging into the wall. I do have my laptop and my desktop although the desktop is not up and running. So, I’m a writer, right? That means I write, right? Not so. When I have a few moments between “have to run here” and “have to handle this” and has “so and so been in contact”, I sit down to work and just sigh. I stare off into space with my mind racing about everything in my This isn’t writer’s block. I know what to write. I have several stories started and they are begging for new font, but I can’t get my mind to settle in order to think. I have people asking me what I did yesterday and I can’t easily recall it. Is this poor writing discipline or is this a time where I need to cut myself some slack and take a vacation until I’m settled in my new place? All of my contractual obligations are in the hands of others at this point so I don’t have an editor waiting for anything. About to Sin is still in the hands of beta readers so I don’t even have that. Maybe I should work with WIPs that need light editing? Suggestions?

Cut yourself slack! I've been there, and it's always during big disruptions like moving house. Part of me says its poor writing discipline, because hell, we are writers, and we can write in the middle of a convention if we have to. But the rest of me says we are also only human and sometimes we need to take a few days out, kick up the feet and sip on some good Earl Grey! Hell, you need to kick that bed about too! It's hard enough to write every day in the first place, let alone have to do it on a bad nights sleep too! I say take a break, and do light editing work if you feel guilty about going idle. But I think you deserve a recharge. Sounds like it's only natural at the moment.
