I know someone who had a story published with them *one day* before they shut their doors. I went over and bought a copy, then had to bug them two or three times to send me the file.
That's no way to run a publishing company, IMHO.

Somewhere in my search of publishers, I came across a recent blog post. I think it was their blog and they mentioned they were NOT having financial difficulties. I guess whoever ran it just didn't want to run it anymore.

I think if you release a book on Friday and close on Saturday there is a little more to it than is being said. Some authors were clearly not terribly happy with how things were going over the last few months.
That said, better to get out while you can still pay all the bills.

I realize this is an old topic but I just joined, and as someone who was seriously in the know with the situation at AA, take my word for it when I say the closing was absolutely for the best.
It was also very abrupt, yes. I've seen in various places accusations that the publisher released that last book to spite the author and make sure they couldn't advertise it as an unpublished mss anywhere else. That isn't true. Some bad hoo ha came up that made immediate closure the best thing to do.

I think people get carried away attributing malice to others. In my experience when something goes worng the most plausible explanation is generally something along the lines of 'Oops'.
