Big Un
Do any of you have works that exceed 100k? If so, I'm curious how your plots break down. Without giving away your stories, what are the major plot points and what major things happen in a story of that size? How many major characters? Etc.

Bee is 164k. I co-wrote that with Fae. My Heart is close at 96k, but not quite. Hmmmm with Bee, there were 3 major characters and a villian on top of it, but the villian was more of a sub-plot. There was another character who kinda moved things along at certain points. The POV was all from two characters for the most part. It's a romance, but given Roman's abuse in his past and the fact that both him and his love interest were owned by another man it gave us all kinds of plot twists. When I initially came up with the idea I wrote out the gist of the story in two pages. It was the twists and the layers that added the length to it. Every time they'd overcome an obstacle, another naturally fell into place. It was the same with My Heart, there were a lot of layers to the story. There was the romance part, and the paranormal/mystery part, and the villians just making things more difficult as well.

Wow on the 164k. Excellent answer by the way. With my story, holding steady at 65k, I think I need more twists and setbacks.

Purposed Chaos is incomplete at 116k. There are two major characters, two main minor characters and three minor-minor characters. The story takes chaos theory and smushes it with parallel universe theory. There are two dieties who control the world via a chess board and watch as two lovers try lifetime after lifetime to foster love. The book is divided into five sections. Each section is a different incarnation of the same couple. After the incarnations, there's a limbo section where the couple waits for their next incarnation to try again. All of the sections end badly except for the last one where everything, including the butterflies, finally get to an HEA. It sounds confusing a shit like this, but I promise it makes sense as you read it.

I have an epic fantasy that's still going. Each book is over 100k. Most are in the 130k mark. I've published ten of the novels, but I have more waiting in queue. I'm fixing up the older ones as second editions at the moment. I'm playing with a complete rewrite of the three oldest chapters of the entire series. I'm just about ready to chuck those chapters into writing hell. Anyhow, as for plot, once you get that much story, you pretty much have story arcs that follow the main theme until you wrap up all the plot mysteries you created in the story. Each novel has it's own story arc within the main theme. It helps to have a timeline of the story written on another doc so you can refer back to it.

I hope I have the skill to fix it (bad head hopping) and get it published.
