Book manufacturers
A link to an interesting article, fwiw.... http://www.sfwa.org/Beware/selfpublishing.html

Thanks for posting this, Tav. I'd seen it before, and it has some helpful hints on picking a printer. It's not my favorite article on the topic, though, because I dislike this snippy little bit at the end: "But if you wanted to be published -- reviews in the papers, copies in the bookstores -- this method won't do it." Well, no. Neither would Tor (for which Ms. Hayden works) get reviews in the papers or copies in the bookstores if all it did was sit on its books after they were printed. That's what marketing is all about. It's a bit snooty of Ms. Hayden to assume that only traditional publishers are capable of marketing books. A paragraph about the *difficulties* of marketing self-published books would have been a more realistic way to end the article. By the way, this article was written back in 1999. Since then, Ms. Hayden has made use of Lulu. :) http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/006032.html
