Awwe, thanks... Glad you liked it.

MariFree- 02-04-2007

I got the rejection… But it was rejected with very high praise, specific notes, and an invitation to resubmit this ms after a making some changes. That is so cool!

Whoops. I thought this was a forum glitch post. *hangs head* I'm glad you got it sent though. Hard on the nerves isn't it?

The biggest problem the editor said she had with it was misspellings!!! She even listed them and they were all words I have trouble with due to the dyslexic tendencies I have. That pisses me off. I PAID someone to proofread for that very reason. Looks I’m in the market for a new proofreader. Other than that she really said some nice things about it. It was the first contemporary I’d done and my first attempt at romantic comedy. Editor’s comments: “Book is too funny and characters too charming to give up on…” “…the book is extremely funny and the author has, if not the technical training, certainly the natural talent required for writing. Story was easily the most original interpretation I’ve seen of the Naughty Nuptials theme.” :D All in all, I’m very excited about it. Nothing she mentioned can’t be worked with and fixed.

So at least it is good bad news? And time for a refund from that proofer?

Marguerite Mingorance- 02-04-2007

You don't use MS word spell checker? It's pretty good, especially if you turn on the grammar checker too. Some of Word's ideas about what is good grammar are annoying, though. I wish they would give you a screen that would allow you to disable individual grammar rules. Also, there should be an option to not grammar check dialogue.

MariFree- 02-04-2007

Yes, I used spell check prior to sending it to the proofreader for her to check. The words the editor mentioned were words spell check won’t catch. form/from (I do that one a lot) he/the barley/barely There are a couple of other culprits as well. You caught a couple in the OBM chapter I know this is one of two bad grammar problems I have. That’s why I pay for that extra look. I’m working on trying to learn a way to see it correctly myself.

With the grammar checker on it should flag words that are out of context, even though they are in the dictionary.

Update: Beware of the Cowboy resubmitted- much easier to send this time. EC editor suggested changes now complete. Ripped out subplot and an entire character! In hindsight, there was too much plot for 15K and it reads much smoother without it. Phew…that hurt my feelings. In order to make the changes work, I had to cut a couple of dialogue sequences I loved. When editing, do you ever get used to cutting things you like, even when you know it doesn’t work with the overall ms :?:

James Buchanan- 02-16-2007

Short answer... no. But that's why I have a bits and pieces file. I'll find a way to reuse that if it kills me.

MariFree- 02-16-2007

So I’m not crazy for keeping it! Cool. At least not crazy and alone.

cupnjava- 02-16-2007

I keep EVERYTHING.
