Cooler here in Brum this afternoon and we've even had some rain! Only a few spots but still.... Hopefully it'll percolate across to London soon. :::::::wafts cooler weather south east

Twitch, twitch...
...twitch, twitch. Perhaps it's the heat. This is the state of play. Freya's Bower is editing 'The Facility Trip'. FB is also looking at 'Plan Colombia' and 'An African Moon', both m/f. Samhain is reading 'Wedding of the Wolf.' And Ellora's Cave is looking at 'Blue Obsession.' I'm trying to get on with 'The Intern', the la-*test*-('") M/m (for which I blame you lot) On the back boiler is the major m/f I was working on before I got hijacked, working title, 'The French House.' Apart from that, I'm just twitching....

Tavaran- 07-30-2006

Twitch away. :) And good luck with all those subs.

Just finished writing the synopsis and blurb for 'An Intimate Appraisal.' I love this one, but it's really long -- over 117,000 words. I know if anyone ever accepts it, they're going to make me cut off the end, but I love that bit! Oh well. I reckon if all the others are primed and ready I might be able to get on with 'The Intern' and 'The French House'. Damn, and I have to go to work...

Is it possible to split it into two books? Part One and Part Two?? And I *think* I've seen some e-publishers prepared to accept really long works - not sure, though.

Lamia- 07-30-2006

Yes, there are some. And it wouldn't really work split in two. The main body of the story is set in east Asia. Then there's an episode back in London, which I thought was fun, but could easily be done away with. So the bulk of it is essential. The final bit is about 9,500 words. I can hear the sound of cutting shears...

Joely Skye- 07-30-2006

Well, Samhain's Plus Novels are over 100,000 words… I've seen at least two published.

James Buchanan- 07-30-2006

And that's not a-typical length for an \"on the shelf\" book.

Lamia- 07-31-2006

Thank you all. Perhaps it won't have to face the chop after all. I'll wait to see what happens to the others before I send this baby out on its own.

Tavaran- 08-01-2006

I tend to splurge words around at first, and go back andd trim later. I usually amaze myself how much sheer unnecessary verbiage I can cut out - all those 'reallys' and 'somehows' and 'actuallys'. In a longish piece of work it can add up to a real difference - and it means you're not sacrificing any of the important stuff.

A very silly day. I had to wait in because my new computer was being delivered. They promise you that it can be set up in minutes, and there's a big diagram to help. Well, it was a battle just to get the stuff out of the cardboard boxes. The monitor, allegedly, should have plugged into the CPU, but there was nothing which matched the connector. I was almost in tears before I found, at the bottom of the box, a tiny little adaptor which meant it would all fit together. The computer is nice, and has a huge hard disk (250gb) but I'm not sure it's worth the agonies I've been through today... Tomorrow I'm meeting some friends at the Cutty Sark pub in Greenwich, and then we'll take the dogs for a run along the Thames, so I hope it will be altogether less stressful..,

Just experimenting to see if my new signature is working. Well it is, sort of. Can anyone tell me how to get it so the link actually contains the text which follows it?

Tavaran- 09-07-2006

This is the code for mine, hon, if that helps: God gave us memory so that we might have http://www.torquerepress.com/cart/cart.php?m=product_list&c=705>Roses in December Just leave out the spaces either side of the =, which I put in to stop it using the code instead of displaying it. ;)

Lamia- 09-07-2006

Ninth attempt, almost there... Oh God bless you, Tavaran. Have to go and lie down in a darkened room now...

Tavaran- 09-07-2006

I know the feeling. I'd just about lost the will to live before I got mine right....
