Chippewa/LAP Just as an FYI for anyone who missed the information on the yahoo groups. Chip (and thus LAP) is dealing with a Denial of Service attack. They've been fighting with hackers for about a week or so and have had to go so far as to shut down the server to try to protect themselves. As soon as possible, they're going to get the main page up and redirect shopping carts to fictionwise.

Thanks for the info

Yup, I hadn't heard that so thanks for passing it on.

Does anyone have any info on LAP? Their forums still seem to be down, and as that is their main resource for communicating with authors, it's a bit scary.

I was never able to get the forums to work for more than a few weeks at a time so I didn't notice.

They're STILL under attack. The servers have been brought down and I believe the FBI has been contacted.
The main website is up and all sales are being handled through fictionwise, but the "staging areas" are down. :(

Any idea what that means for a brand new to them author? I'd just gotten my contract off in the mail to them when the issues started and have yet to recieve a copy back despite emails to them, no contact with an editor or anything...I'm beginning to freak out a bit. I did get a short email from Rebecca saying the site was under attack but no mention of what was going on with my novel and contract nor do I have anyone to contact about it besides her and I kind of don't want to nag if she's having these major issues.
It's just worrisome and being brand new and not having a point of contact yet I feel all kinds of out of the loop. Distressing for my first sale.

I've been around folks who underwent a DOS attack. There's a lot of hair-tearing and running around. Just sit tight, and then, if you don't hear back from them after they're back online, you can drop them a short e-mail, sympathizing with them for their troubles and urging them to take any time they need to get back to you about your contract. That's the polite way of asking, "Hey, did you get my letter?" :)

The email will b effected by the servers being down--I would suggested joining the author yahoogroup or using the alternative email on their website under news.

Fae, it is unnerving, but sit tight. They handle everything (contact between authors and editors, etc) on their private forums. That pretty much means nothing in the staging area is working. So, IF and editor has been assigned to you then that editor may not know it. Or they have no way of talking to you about it.
Rebecca probably can't even get you a username and password for the forums yet.
These problems and a few others have delayed my first release from Dec. to...well...it's still not out yet. I figure if I've gone through this with my first one everything else will feel like a cake walk.

Yep, there's a yahoo group. Have you been given the link to that yet?
faesunshine- 04-23-2007
No I haven't. I found a link on their website for a yahoo group for readers that seems to be mostly spam so I didn't bother joining. If there's another I'm unaware.
Thanks for the commiseration, though. It's wierd and kind of funny that my second sale is going to end up being released before my first lol. Is it bad that it makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one who's a bit freaked by the whole thing?

Fae, I have to ask: Who's your sig-text quote from?
faesunshine- 04-23-2007
From a bumper sticker I saw about ten years ago. It was in a pagan shop I frequented and it stuck in my head because it was such a clever little saying lol.
