If you sign on primarily to rebutt an opinion it pays to be address that right in the post and say who you are and how you became involved in the press and whether you have any personal connection to them, what they have done for you so far and whether you have received the first check. Otherwise it is easy to assume you are the publisher, their spouse, alter ego, friend or Personally I think all opinions go in the mix but only specific facts (I sold 50 copies in the first month, they respond promptly to emails, they kicked my puppy) mean very much as people go in with different expectations and also get treated differently. One persons good is another's terrible. All very true. Point well made and I've been here many times. Hey veinglory! Stop by the Tank sometime. Some of the same faces still there. (((waves))))

I must do that. I found the format there a little clunky after a while but it was good peeps :(

I've been a member for this site for awhile, I just haven't been posting just lurking. But I'm a author with Dark Eden as I said. They've been very friendly and professional, answering any and all questions I had in a quick and effective manner. Their submission return time was very short as in two days. I will say that I am a fairly new author but I have found Dark Eden to be very nice place to be published.

Congrats, let us know when it hits the (virtual) stands.

Thanks guys for defending DEP, I really appreciate it. If you go to Veinglory's blog, she makes very good points about new epublishers vs. the ones that have been around a while. Since we have not been around but for just a short bit, there is no way, no track record for authors to judge us. I think that is her main concern. That until we establish ourselves, and have been around for a while, then there is no way to see what we are going to do, or how well we manage the business. And Emily makes a good point of it. And she is right. I would like it out there though, that Sami got a general answer to a general question when this went on. She didnt ask for specifics, and after having a run in with a few other publishers I was a bit worried. One author we were going to sign just wanted to get her hands on a copy of our contract to post on her blog. Honestly, that is what I thought Sami was trying to do. As I told her, it was my mistake. I believe I also apologized for the assumption. It was my mistake, and I admitted to it publicly when she posted on another forum. I think also, that when someone posts a warning like this, they should put the experience they had, give a reason why they think this. It is not fair to put a generalization out there, made by one person, or to put a negative report on a higly visible list such as Piers list, without explaining how and why you came to this conclusion. I think this should go for any publisher or any warning. But that is just my opinion. I have this forum link up in my authors group, its been there a while, along with Absolute Write, because I think forums like this are a great idea for authors to be able to go someplace to find out about publishers and agents that will try to screw them. It is, undoubtedly, a catch-22 for from the new press's POV that they need new authors to get the track record they need to get authors. And some problems and miscalculations in the early stages are pretty much inevitable. I think transperancy pays off in the long run. I hope it does anyway. As an author I have certainly made mistakes, especially early on. In fact I made another one quite recently. My publishers have been very good about it.

It is a catch 22 but one that cannot be avoided. All I can do is stick around and prove that we can do a good job. That is all anyone can do. I edited that to make more sense. My forum posts don't give much evidence that I am a writer.

Debra Durham- 07-18-2007

Well Emily, we cannot be mistake free all the time lol. Debra I edited that to make more sense. My forum posts don't give much evidence that I am a writer.

My editors might have less grey hairs if it were possible.

Any more thoughts on this press?

Maura Anderson- 09-15-2007

I actually know the new EIC of Dark Eden. I will vouch for her but, as we all know, that really only goes as far as her :) I don't know the owner, however. - Maura

Cautiously optimistic :)
