E-book sales Where do you folks who sell e-books get your biggest sales? Amazon? Fictionwise? Your Website? Some other place? I ask because I'm entering into e-book self-publishing.

I don't know yet, but when I get some numbers I'll let you know.

The publisher's website, by far. I'm not on amazon since the mobi-purge. Fictionwise is a distant second and other distributors after that.

Oo, I didn't realize that authors knew this sort of info too.

Only speaking for my own, of course. Some writers at RD report selling a majority through fictionwise : and the royalty reports are itemised partly as the royalty share varies (distributors taking 50% off the top and all).

Every time I hear people talking online about how e-books are too expensive, and how it's all the fault of those money-grubbing publishers, I want to scream at them, "It's the distributors' fault! Don't you realize that the distributors are gouging you?"

Most of mine, as per the royalty statements, come through the publisher's site. I do know that I have people who only buy my stuff through fictionwise or other distributors, but there the minority.

This is all very reassuring to me. I couldn't see the point of getting an ISBN block for my e-books if I wasn't going to be selling them through Amazon, but I wondered whether only selling them at my site and through Lulu would hurt sales (and brand me as an utter nonprofessional).

None of my ebooks currently sell through Amazon, not since the mobi-purge. Some epublisher pay the formatting fee and use them but none of mine have. When they were there (a few years ago) the sales were low.

Yeah, Amazon was more of a place where if people were otherwise Net phobic, you could send them. Well, and when people would start snarking about an e-book you could hit them with "well, Amazon sells it... must mean something."

I'm not on amazon since the mobi-purge What is the mobi purge?

It is my own ranty McRant term for when amazon threw all ebooks of their site other than Mobipocket format--having just bought Mobipocket, not so coincidentally.
I got very upset (can you tell?). Apparently nobody else did.
They then waited a year or two, brought out the Kindle, now allow onlt Kindle format and are getting praised for savinf-slash-inventing the ebook.

That's horrible. :(
