Egalitarian Erotica Recommendations?
Hello everyone, I'm looking for recommendations for erotica literature that treats all its characters with respect and gives them equal power in relationships and sex scenes, with plenty of character development. I'm not interested in BDSM or power exchange or coercion, and M/F is preferred but any gender combination will do. Can you recommend anything for me? I've not had much success in my search so far :?

straight, vanilla erotica...hmm...I know of a m/m publication that only handles vanilla, but...hmm...sorry, I don't really know that much het and what I do know is fetish.

Isn't that funny, Cup! I do write egalitarian sex, and some of it is het-- and a lot of it is BDSM. BDSM can be completely egalitarian (I am not saying this to try to persuade you of anything, HiThere, just making an observation)... I think your problem is that it's difficult to write anything that has no conflict, and make it gripping to the reader-- or the writer, for that matter. And egalitarian, utterly fair sex scenes are not going to have much in the way of conflict, unless the writer is really skilled at nuances, and most of us just aren't that good... Yet. ;) Imp Of Perversity is a fanfic community that has M/M love/sex stories. I think they are incredibly hot, personally-- I write for it :p Not all of it is perfectly free of coercion, but most of it is-- These series (on the right hand side) # -1: picaresque # -2: trochal # -3: malabar trade # .1 navigational errors # .2 mortal hazards # 1: alchemical prescription # 2: second opinion # 3: european physick # accomodations Are the earliest works and pretty satisfying reads. There's aton of adventure plot, and as far as sex is concerned there's a "will he?" element, and a lot of persuasion, but no force at all. I have a het series-- no real plot... called Sarabande which is intense and vanilla. Mostly.

Stella, you bring up a VERY good point...two actually. 1) I don't know enough about the body of work of my fellow ERWF writers. 2) I should have gone with my gut and reminded HiThere that BDSM can be egalitarian. Some of the best kink I've read was when the couple viewed themselves as perfectly equal, but just enjoyed a kinky sex life. From, "On your knees" to "I brought you a cup of tea" with just a scene change.

I think you scared her off... dammit, and here I thought I might have found me a reader! :p THREADJACK!! I'm in a pissy mood. I normally can handle the echoing empty silence that one so often gets when one answers an internet question, but-- I spent three careful days recently, going over someone's manuscript. There were a lot of positives, and a lot of criticisms, most of those technical. I sent it back, and heard... nuttin, for two weeks. I emailed (him, though this is not a gender issue) and asked if he was happy with my work and got back this sentence; "yes it was okay" Fut the whuck!?!? I really hope he sends it back for more work so that i can explain to him why he doesn't get no more outta me.

Beta'ing is usually thankless work. I try to be very appreciative when someone beta's for me even if I don't follow all of the advice. It's been my experience that hobby writers just want their ego stroked. All of the times I've given a full and detailed crit to them (after asking if that's what they wanted and they ALWAYS want it), they never speak to me again. Writers who have been published or are gunning for publication usually come back for more crits from me. Whenever I beta, I become thankful that I'm not an editor. LOL!
