Erotic Authors Association - feedback wanted
In a few weeks (as most of you already know), I'll be taking over as director of the Erotic Authors Association. There are a lot of erotic romance authors in the organization (including some ERWF members), and erotic romance is specifically mentioned in the organization's mission statement. However, for those of you who *aren't* currently members, is there any way in which you think the EAA could be made especially friendly to erotic romance writers or otherwise improved? (The old site will be taken down, and I'll be putting up a new one.)

I'll have to give that one a think. I'll be re-applying in April, to give you time to settle down into things. LOL

I may have known about the place a year ago, and forgot, but I think I didn't join because I wasn't technically published by anyone but myself at that time. It's not clear as to whether self-published authors are accepted.

The blue is not especially pleasng to the eye. It could be laid out a little better, web wise... I like the set up, but it is not intutively freindly web wise. I can't put my finger on why. It doesn't feel \"comfortable\" from a surfer view when I visit.

"It's not clear as to whether self-published authors are accepted." You think the moderator of the Self-Publishing forum didn't check on this already? :) The answer is yes. I'm going to be making that clear at the new Website, because I agree, it should be spelled out. "It could be laid out a little better" Navigation will definitely be made easier, as most of the current content will be disappearing. Anyone else have any thoughts on the color scheme?

Thoughts on Color
Whatever you pick, I vote for it being high contrast -- when the tonal values are too close, it's really hard for me to read.

Lamia- 01-01-2007

Congratulations, Dusk. I didn't know. I find the colour (which looks more like aquamarine to me) very trying, especially with the yellow lettering. It's very hard on the eye. There's no consistency in the site, when you click through you get white on black. The front page is too busy for me, I'd prefer something less cluttered which can breath a bit. Having said that, I didn't know about this site, and now I've bookmarked it -- just in time for you to take it down, probably!

kmfrontain- 01-01-2007

Good stuff. I feel more welcome. Thank you, Dusk. :D I have the page bookmarked, so I'll check back in in March, by which time I will also have an FB publication to add to my pubbed list.

I joined but didn't do much else. I was rather foggy on what the organisation was meant to do that I could take part in or help with and what it would do for me, and the initiatives like the books seemed to be by invitation or something. It would be nice to have some more open channels of communication rather than occassional email that seemed to assume I knew all about the shit storm that was apparently going on. Or was I missing something? It seemed like a very good initiative to me but there wasn't all that much to do but look at the website from time to time.

Or was I missing something? What shit storm? What are you talking about? Why does everyone always seem to know more about what's going on than me?

Lamia said: "just in time for you to take it down, probably!" :). You'd best save the parts you like to disk. The only parts that are certain to survive the transition are the Member Websites page and the information on the awards and founders. kmfrontain wrote: "I'll check back in in March" April. I'm moving the application period down a month because March is when my eyes are at their worst. veinglory wrote: "I was rather foggy on what the organisation was meant to do that I could take part in or help with" I'd definitely like to make it more of a cooperative rather than an administration-funneled organization. If only to keep from collapsing from overwork. :) "the initiatives like the books seemed to be by invitation" I'm assuming so. That part of the organization will be shutting down in any case. "It would be nice to have some more open channels of communication" I'm thinking of offering members an option of a members-only forum for discussions. Ideas for the EAA could be among the topics discussed. Lamia asked: "What shit storm?" I've no idea. This must have occurred before my arrival. In any case, I assume Em didn't go into the details because we're talking here in a Googleable space. :) Dusk (who gathers that people really, really don't like the color scheme)

veinglory- 01-01-2007

LOL, no, me either. But I would suggest going clean and simple at east to begin with. A lot of people like the pretties, but not the same pretties. Maybe some kind of logo competition would be a way to get started?

Dusk- 01-01-2007

I think I'll hold off on that for now, as I've received permission to continue using the old one. Something to consider for the future.

Not sure if it's possible, but making light has a thing where you can adjust the font size for readability, which I think is wonderful. Apparently this comes on some browsers,t hough, so you might not want to monkey around with it. *I need a computer younger than my children!*

Dusk- 01-01-2007

"Apparently this comes on some browsers" It comes with all Windows and Mac browsers, as far as I know (says the partially sighted reader). Mind you, IE isn't as flexible as one would like. There, if you want to go above a certain type size, you have to go into Windows to fiddle around with the accessibility settings - which, of course, affect all Windows elements, not just IE. Looking at the Websites I know that offer this option, I'm seeing php and cgi and other stuff above my Webmastering skills. Couldn't find the option at Making Light (you're talking about the blog, right?). If anyone can suggest an *easy* way to do this, I could add it.
