[FAQ] What the heck do all these abbreviations mean?
I thought it would make sense to start a thread on frequently-used abbreviations, to save members scratching their heads. Here's the first few, feel free to add to them as and when more occur to you. ------------ FF - Forbidden Fruit magazine ( http://www.forbiddenfruitzine.com ) m/m - male/male or homoerotic, especially fiction f/f - female/female, or lesbian m/m/f or m/f/f (or combinations!) - menage, bisexual, pansexual TQ or TQP - Torquere Press, homoerotic e-publisher EC - Ellora's Cave, erotic romance e-publisher WCP - Whiskey Creek Press, erotic romance e-publisher

ERWA: Erotica Readers & Writers Association. http://www.erotica-readers.com/ ERWF: Erotic Romance Writers Forum. This place. ERWI: Erotic Romance Writers International. http://www.bysable.com/awards.html ERRW: Erotic Romance Reviews for Women. http://www.errw.com/ The last three have an overlap in membership. The first is there just to confuse everyone. I hope you don't mind me adding terminology here, Tav - unknown terms give me as many headaches as unknown abbreviations do. So, for those who are from outside the fanfic world: Fan fiction = Stories based on pre-existing characters/settings/plots. Fan fiction is usually (but not always) based on stories that are copyrighted. Original fiction = The opposite of fan fiction. Stories that are made up from scratch. There's an overlap area here - stories based on legends, myths, and historical characters are sometimes considered fan fiction, sometimes original fiction. Het = Fan fiction about heterosexual encounters or relationships. Sometimes the term is used outside of fan fiction contexts. Slash = Homoerotic fan fiction, usually male/male. Original slash = Original homoerotic stories written for slash readers. Sometimes the term is used for any type of amateur homoerotic fiction that appeals to slash readers. Pro slash = Professional homoerotic fiction that is "slashy" in nature - usually, this means that love plays an important role in the plotline. Gayfic = Male homoerotic fiction that is published primarily for gay readers. More esoteric fanfic terms can be found here: The Fanfiction Glossary http://www.subreality.com/glossary/terms.htm

This is a term that had me stumped when I first showed up. YAOI: Erotic tales or images of male/male (gay) encounters, usually for adults only -- the Japanese version of hardcore slash. Yaoi is an acronym for the Japanese phrase "Yama nashi, imi nashi, ochi nashi" ("Without climax, without meaning, without resolution"), though some fans joke that it stands for"Yamete! Oshiri ga itai!" ("Stop! My ass hurts!"). ;) The female equivalent is yuri. See also shonen ai, or read Yumemisama's full explanation of anime/manga adult story classifications. Taken from: The Fanfiction Glossary (thanks to Dusk for the link) http://www.subreality.com/glossary/terms.htm Bayou Bill 8)

cupnjava- 02-17-2007

Okay time to admit I don't know some words WTF is "crackfic"? Crackfics are gag fics. They're doing PURELY for the humor. I've written a few crackfics and they always go over very well. Some are parody and some aren't, but they're always funny.
