French and German questions Can anyone here give me the pronunciation of "Les amants de la rue vielle du temple"? I need it for a credit line in the audio edition of "Leather, Licking, and Lawnmowers."
Also, does anyone know how to pronounce the name Gerth?

No clue on the French, but in German, there's no 'th' sound. 'Th' is 't'. So Gerth would be pronounced 'Gert'. I'm pretty sure I got the vowel sound right, but it's early, so I could be wrong. But I can definitely tell you that there is no 'th' in German (as pronounced in English).

Not sure how I can convey this, but it's:
Laysamon duh lah roo vee-ay do tompler.
'Les amants' should be elided as indicated.
'du' is an oo sound, but with a touch of u in it, if that makes sense.
The final 'er' on 'temple' is just a suggestion, not a heavy 'er'

Thanks, both! I've had a smattering of French and German over the years, so that helps.

I am no doubt jumping in way too late for the French but here it goes (and remember it may sound more Quebec than French France):
Les amants de la rue vielle du temple
Lez(short vowel; link this word to amants, like you're saying one word)
a(soft a)-mon(pronounced on without actually saying the n sound, the n goes up the nose--best way I can describe it. Trying saying honk without saying the k, then drop the h and you'll have a close enough approximation; do not prounce the s)
der(but don't really say the r sound. It's as if you will, to get the right vowel sound, but you don't say an r sound)
la (short vowel)
rew (like dew, try to roll the R; try to make the ew sound a bit fast and nasal, not long like the word poo, lol)
vee-a(long vowel)-y (consonant sound of Y, almost like you're saying yuh, but not much uh)
dew (try it like I explained rue)
tomp(like with amant, make the om part go up the nose; do say the p sound, like it's attached to the next syllable)-le(it's more like saying pluh, but don't really say the uh part. It's almost a nonexistant schwa e)
