For clarity's sake, it should be mentioned that none of the presses in the last two posts are romance publishers, though I think they all publish romance occasionally. Longer lists of GLBT publishers are here:
Lori L. Lake's GLBT Publishing Links.
Lambda Literary Foundation's Publishers Links.

Would you really call Lethe a big boy on the block? And while I love Suspect Thoughts to death, it's working on a smaller scale than, say, Alyson.
Alyson, Cleis, Kensington, and Haworth all seem to be solid players. StarBooks puts out some interesting stuff, but I've heard more than one report from authors of troubles with publication delays. What's your experience with it been like?
Em, I know of Seventh Window and PD Publishing (and what's the story behind *them*, inquiring minds want to know, because they seem to be attracting a lot of slash authors - coincidence?). However, Cavalier doesn't ring a bell. Link, please?

From what I know... 7th window. The editor is a doll to work with (if a little anal - which is not bad for an editor). However, and this is rumor, but from some I trust, he's pulling back a bit. Due to some financial constraints he's going with re-releases of known sellers and maybe a new work by top sellers.
Mind you, for a small press, not a bad buisness plan when things get shakey. Go with what you know and can do so you can re-group. Even then he's very specific on what he wants. I'm good with that kind of thing. He has impressed me as professional and courtious. What I have isn't what everyone likes, it's how you tell someone that.
If I thought I had something that would fit, I'd sub to them again.
That is my only info on 7th.

I think Cavalier went belly-up last year.
Regal Crest is a largely lesbian publisher but they do publish m/m romance as well.
As to GLBT themed books overall -- lots of the really big houses publish it to some degree. Riverhead publishes Sarah Waters; Houghton Mifflin publishes Stacey d'Erasmo; Caroll & Graf publishes Leslie Feinberg; St Martins publishes Ellen Hart. Take a look at the Lambda nominees from last year (http://www.lambdaliterary.org/awards/current_nominees.html) to get a fairly comprehensive list of who's publishing GLBT fiction.
Maybe we should try to list which publishers a) publish predominantly GLBT fiction and b) do print runs rather than POD?

We do have a list of forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=351>M/M markets in the Markets forum, but it could use some updating. And we don't have any list of F/F markets.

Ok, so I got my book in the mail today, "Without Reservations," by J.L. Langley from My Bookstore and More. First off the shipping was fast. The book arrived in 3 days. Second, the cover was BEAUTIFUL...absolutely to die for. The quality of the book is outstanding (I haven't read for any errors) and I was soooo damn....Jealous.
You guys must think me vain as hell, but I am not going to lie when I say I want to write something (Muse providing) worthy of passing the mysterious print publications guidelines.
I'm going to look into and buy a few more books from your recommended publishers. While glbt pubs are out there, finding the Paranormal Hawt M/M print stuff is such a treat!!

*chuckles* Vain? Lord, no. :P Besides, I can safely say--after having met you in person--you are NOT a vain person. :)
Do tell us how the book is, though. It's one I've been looking at for a while, but haven't gotten yet. :)
Mya- 06-22-2007
LOL, maybe not vain...but definately obssessive compulsive and so far (I'm only on chapter 2) the book is already starting to warm me up...big wolf/small wolf dynamics....thud...
mychael_black- 06-22-2007
ROFL! Your dream book. ;)
Bah. I'm OCD, too. LOL
cupnjava- 06-23-2007
Not vain, I'd love to do print too. Ahh...one day.

I have purchased a lot of e-books but I swear, being able to take my book into the bathroom, lay on the bed and read, take the book on the train to work...that is nice, especially when its prOn.
veinglory- 06-23-2007
I have yet to work out a good way to read an ebook in the bath...
James Buchanan- 06-24-2007
Vein? No. I'm absolutely, insanely jealous when one of my writing freinds has a work released in print. Happy for them, but jealous none the less.
