How to get your book release listed in The Slash Skinny I'd like to alert those of you who would like your book releases listed in The Slash Skinny: News and Market Report on Original Slash, Femslash, Yaoi, and Yuri (SFYY) that (as of the April issue) I now have the requirement that such works be labelled by their creators or publishers as SFYY through blurbs, tags, or similar promotional devices. Details are here.
I want to emphasize: Your publisher doesn't have to call your stuff SFYY. I just need some indication that either you or your publisher are marketing it that way to readers. Saying, "My original slash/yaoi novel has just been published" in your announcement at your Website or blog, or at an SFYY forum, is good enough. (Of course I only expect you to do that if it actually is an original slash/yaoi novel.)
My official reason for this requirement. My evil secret reason:
To bring original slash and femslash out of the closet.
For years, yaoi and yuri has been professionally published under those genre names. But any original slash author who has wanted to have his or her work published has had to accept another label for that work: gay romance, homoerotic romance, queer science fiction . . . even yaoi.
I'm fine with multiple genre labels, in order to reach readers from a variety of fiction communities. I use multiple labels myself. But recently, self-published original slash authors have rebelled against the system and plainly declared that their writings are (among other things) slash.
So here's your chance to send a message to the publishing world that slash writers are just fine with having original slash works labelled for what they are - and that readers will seek out such works if they're properly labelled.
