I presume 50/50 so half of the cover art from royalties and half from the publisher. Still, to me that's in the realms of subsidy publishing

That's unusual to deduct cover art costs from royalties. I don't think I've ever heard such a thing.

So if I am to understand correctly the author is paying for part of the cover art? *frowns* Could you possibly PM me with who that is? That doesn't seem right at all.

I can't see a reason why any publisher would feel the need to charge authors for the cover art either. And the whole 'costs' issue would bother me.
