Straight gay guys
It seems a little like some readers like 'straight' guys who sleep with gay guys. Hmmm. But that seems somewhat unrealistic on the usual straight/gay way of seeing things. e.g. born gay, stay gay. No there is of course olympic-grade denial but that would get whiny and less than hero is rather quick. Can you think of any other ways a guy could be in an increasingly monogamous gay relationship while being ostensibly straight without being deep in de Nile? ?

Hmm, I'd say they are either such good friends, have such a deep emotional bond, that they are soul mates even with the orientation issue. The other alternative is the gay guy is actually gender dysphoric. Read a book called Transister Radio, it's pretty good, although it misses the mark in some important areas.

I wrote a rather long short story (actually it was a novella, but I didn't know what a novella was back then) about a guy finding out that his best friend was gay. There was plenty of sex in it. The MC never said if he was gay, straight or bi, but most of the comments I got back from readers were along the lines of what Marguerite said. They generally said that they were just very good friends, and sexuality labels didn't really figure. I think it's doable. But I guess you're always going to get the question as to whether or not the 'straight' guy is actually bisexual. Is he bisexual if he only ever sleeps with his best friend? I think some readers (heck me also) like the fantasy of a straight guy getting with a gay guy.

That sounds pretty reasonable. And yes, as a gay man I can say that there does seem to be that sorta fetish. Heh and the assumption that a straight guy is just a guy who hasn't slept with a guy YET. All sorts of horrible gay thoughts ...

It seems a little like some readers like 'straight' guys who sleep with gay guys. Hmmm. But that seems somewhat unrealistic on the usual straight/gay way of seeing things. e.g. born gay, stay gay. Yah... I can see that issue... but there is always the "Prison Gay" approach... or the 'curious' approach. It has been my highly limited exposure that the 'curious' approach works best especially if say something like they find out their best friend is gay and they decide that maybe... they might be gay too.. or that they want to "give it a try"... in which case the end result would be the straight guy becomes bi-sexual or does not like homosexuality... likes homosexuality only with his best friend... things like that... I only say this because it is unrealistic to put forth that a man that likes women would suddenly... stop liking them... or not like the idea of sex with them.. when they already did like the idea of sex with them. No more so then to think that a gay man would suddenly be like "BAM! I just had sex with a Woman and I am straight now!" kind of situation... the same mentality holds in both directions... No there is of course olympic-grade denial but that would get whiny and less than hero is rather quick. Can you think of any other ways a guy could be in an increasingly monogamous gay relationship while being ostensibly straight without being deep in de Nile? ? Denial works too... maybe a "strange urge" and it "took his best friend to help him see the light" type deal... but that seems a bit overdone... but that does not mean it won't make for a great story... Hope some of this helped... this is just what I have gleaned from my limited exposure to that type of stuff...

Wow… What’s my opinion? Well, the hot straight guy who can be talked into the sack is without doubt part of the gay lexicon of erotic fantasy. So is the sorchingly hot semi truck driver. Ever looked at the guys driving the Peterbuilt trucks as they go down the highway? I have yet to spot the muscularly rippled, sorchingly hot guy driving one of those. So, I think it falls down to a question of logic. Can a straight guy have a gay experience and still be straight. Of course. I’ve slept with women, and I can assure you that I am still gay. But can a straight guy regularly want to wrinkle the sheets with other guys and still be straight? I think not. The regular urge to hook up with someone sporting the same equipment is a definite red flag to reassess one’s inclinations.

It's like saying, "I'm a vegetarian, but I still eat chicken." They're either in, or they're out. (no pun inteneded)
