Title Search for Nate & Ceasar Okay folks… I’m about ½ done with Nate and Caesar. My goal is finish a chapter a day. 11 down… 12 to go. If it keeps up like it is, I’ll hit about 66k. That said, it’s time to start looking for a title.
A short synopsis: Caesar Serrano and Nathan Reilly meet at a studio party in the Hollywood hills. Caesar is being chatted up by the producers of a reality show for a possible host gig… not because he does acting, but because he used to break into houses. Nate has tagged along with his twin, Carol who manages voice-over talent for one of the agencies. Carol introduces them and sparks fly.
The problem is, Caesar never stopped breaking into houses. He just got good at not getting caught. And Nate? Nate is a cop. When the two find out what each other does for “a living,” a different sort of spark flares.
When Caesar breaks into a house and finds homemade kiddy porn, he only knows one person to turn to. Nate discovers that the house belongs to a fairly high ranking officer within the LAPD. Hardliners, crooked cops and their own distrust of each other get in the way as they try to bring a monster to justice and maybe find a way to be with each other along the way.

I'm lousy at coming up with titles, but the book sounds good!

Just on the idea of a thief wanting to report kiddie porn, I've got 'Stealing Back Innocence', but this is an erotic novel so that might not fit. I don't know how strong is the underlying bad cop theme in the story, If it's not strong enough, that title would be so off. But overall, I'd try to go with a title that suggest this conflict between the bad of stealing and the unusual good act it results in, in this novel.
James Buchanan- 07-25-2006
Well, I was toying with \"No Good Dead Goes Unpunished.\" But that's a little long.

Actually, I like it. You're right it's a little long, but it 's also pithy. It would make a good tagline, if not the title.
James Buchanan- 07-25-2006
That's true! So no title... but a tag line.

I so much want to suggest 'Prisoners of Love' which is of course, the muscial which the producers in 'The Producers' use to follow up 'Springtime for Hitler.'
But I won't.
I quite like 'The Good Thief.'

Ooh, or The Honest Thief?
Lamia- 07-25-2006
Ooh, or The Honest Thief?
Yes, perhaps that's more euphonious. I thought 'The Good Thief' sounded a bit Graham Greene-y, which I like.
annamariesong- 07-25-2006
I was just thinking that \"good\" is such a vague term. What was good about him? That he did his job well or that he did the right thing? Of course, maybe that makes that choice stronger. Hmm.

Oh, and I keep forgetting to type it until after I hit Submit, but snaps for the Producers reference. Still haven't seen the new one, but the original is on my top twenty list. :)

I can't bear to see the new one, I loved the original so much. Still has the power to make me laugh out loud...

You just can't beat Gene Wilder screaming about his blue blanky. I can't imagine anyone being able to top that first half hour.
