Volunteer slush readers
An interesting post at the TeleRead blog about Baen Books's use of volunteer slush readers. Volunteer manuscript critiquing has been going on for decades, of course. I wonder how much else will become "crowdsourced" in the future?

Interesting, and encouraging too, because at least authors know that someone did indeed take a sincere look at their manuscript before rejecting it. That might sound odd, but knowing that all the manuscripts do get looked at makes me feel better about a publisher.
