Wanted:market for oddball
Hello, I am new. My name is Sarah. I have a short story I'm having a heck of a time finding the right market for. It is 3000 words, sort of a romance, but it's not romantic, though it has a few flashbacks about the former romance of a married couple, it does mention the great sex they had, but doesn't contain any actual sex scenes, it is more about deceit in a long marriage, revealed in increments, but I don't think it would be suited for a romance magazine for it has a wicked and violent twist for an ending, very macabre. But I don't think it would be suited for a mystery magazine either, because of the long stretch of talk about the marriage, plus, the fact that the wife has a lesbian affair, poses for a porn magazine, which both are spoken about but not described, and the wife has turned into an alcoholic. I have never written erotica, but I suspect this might be considered soft erotica. Does a good paying market, at least 5 cents a word, either web or print, come to mind ? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. The story is called, "Twenty Years in a Shoebox."

Sorry, hon, het markets aren't my forte so I can't think of any offhand. Hopefully some of the other guys will be able to help. 5c a word sounds kind of high for a short story, though. I think many publishers are offering flat rates of around $10 or $20 per story....

Sorry, 'het' is shorthand for heterosexual. I write homoerotic fiction myself so I'm not familiar with markets for male/female stories. Sorry I couldn't be more help. :(

3c plus is generally called professional. I have never earned 5c for a short story so I guess I wouldn't know. Those rates tend to be for short non-fiction or hard core erotica. There are a lot of macarbe markets but they pay lower flat rates.

I pay $10 for 1000-5000 word pieces. UnMasked is completely online and will be released next month.

You realize that post was more than 2 years old, and that the poster had a total of ONE post?

Maybe she found a place to put it after all.

Let me see...3,000 words that contains flashbacks of romance, memories of sex, and is actually a story of deceit and lies in marriage? Either I use WAY TOO many words or...
