I found King’s book to be one of the most accessible books on writing I’ve read, and I’m not much of a King fan. I like his advice on symbolism, something I’m always confused about, that it’s probably present in your writing anyway, and you just have to locate it. I think once you get past the first part, which seems to be mostly autobiographical, the writing information itself is really useful stuff. And yeah, I have a huge stack of how to write books, I dont read them so much now. I think I bought them to delude myself that they were a substitute for writing, which was a mistake. I've wasted years that way, 'learning the art', when there's no real substitute other than writing itself. That's mostly what i've learned from all those 'how to' books anyway :)
